What we do

At SHE Ventures, we create opportunities for women to build confidence, resilience, and community through outdoor adventure. Whether you're looking to take your first steps into backcountry hiking or expand your outdoor skills, we offer guided multi-day hikes, learn-to-camp workshops, and custom adventure planning to help you feel prepared and empowered in the wilderness.

Our experiences are designed to be accessible, supportive, and adventure-driven, with a focus on skill-building, connection, and personal growth. Whether you're joining a group hike, planning a private trip, or celebrating a milestone with a backcountry bachelorette, there's an experience for every level.

OUR VALUES

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

Spending time outdoors comes with the responsibility to protect it. SHE Ventures is committed to minimizing impact, respecting wildlife, and preserving natural spaces for future generations. Guided by the Leave No Trace principles, we emphasize responsible adventuring and leaving nature undisturbed.

CONFIDENCE THROUGH EXPERIENCE

True confidence comes from stepping outside of your comfort zone and proving what you're capable of. Whether it’s setting up a tent for the first time or tackling a multi-day hike, every challenge is an opportunity to grow stronger, more capable, and more self-reliant.

Community and Connection

Adventure is as much about the people you share it with as the journey itself. SHE Ventures is built on the belief that outdoor spaces should be welcoming and inclusive, creating friendships and a support system where women encourage each other to explore, challenge themselves, and celebrate their wins.

Note that SHE Ventures welcomes all women, including cisgender and transgender women, as well as non-binary individuals who feel comfortable in a women-centered space.

We believe that adventure and outdoor training should be available to all women, regardless of financial circumstances. We operate entirely by donation and do not accept payment for guiding, training, or equipment loans, ensuring cost is never a barrier to participation. Donations help sustain our mission by covering liability insurance, equipment, training, and trip coordination, allowing more women to explore the outdoors safely and confidently.

ACCESSIBILITY

Meet the founder

Lauri is an experienced backcountry camper, environmental professional, and advocate for adventure. She spent her entire twenties with a backpack—whether completing multi-day backcountry treks or exploring new destinations around the world. Her love for backcountry hiking began at 13 with a four-day trek in the Adirondack Mountains, sparking a lifelong passion for remote spaces. Since then, she has hiked thousands of kilometers on long-distance trails, including a thru-hike of New Zealand’s South Island on the Te Araroa Trail (1,100+ km).

With experience navigating male-dominated industries, including the environmental and mining sectors, Lauri understands the importance of challenging gender stereotypes and eliminating inequalities. She holds a degree in environmental science and is currently completing a master’s in environment and geography. Her career has taken her to some of Canada’s most remote regions, including three years as an environmental technician on Northern Baffin Island, where she was also a member of the mine’s emergency response team. She now works closely with First Nations in northern Ontario’s mining industry, focusing on relationship-building and environmental stewardship.

Lauri has pursued extensive outdoor training, having completed a two-day Wilderness Survival Skills Course and four-day Wilderness First Aid Course through Get Outdoors Training, as well as a two-day Whitewater Tandem Canoe Course through Paddler Co-op. Her background in emergency response and survival training has strengthened her ability to navigate unpredictable environments and stay prepared for whatever the backcountry throws her way—whether it’s sudden weather shifts, rugged terrain, or handling emergencies far from help.

As a single woman in her thirties, Lauri values both independence and the power of community. She understands the freedom of solo adventure, as well as the importance of connection and shared experiences. Her journey—both on the trail and in life—has been about embracing challenges, building confidence, and forming meaningful relationships along the way.
